If you didn’t already know, fish frys are an age-old Catholic tradition. Today, they are a fun way to spend time with other parishioners or meet new friends without having to cook dinner. Below is the ultimate guide to this year’s fish frys all around the state.
We are also facilitating our third annual Fish Fry completion. This is a light-hearted competition to bring even more excitement and community-building to parishes around town. Vote for your parish here!
NOTE: If you know of a Lenten fish fry that has not been included but definitely should be, leave a note in the comments section below with where, when, and why you love it (emphatic support is encouraged). We’ll get it added to the list! If you have additional fun details about any of the ones already listed, you’re encouraged to share those as well. Firsthand Recount: “We went today and it was not like it used to be, but good! They used to do it restaurant-style, where you placed your order on ipads in the hallway and then walked into Corbett Hall, and they seated you and then brought your food when it was ready. Today, for the first time, it was a buffet. They had fried shrimp, baked salmon, baked tilapia, and fried cod, with french fries, very good mac n cheese, coleslaw, hush puppies, and salad. Everything was good, but the mac n cheese was especially good. You could pay extra for beer, wine, or soft drinks, but there was lemonade, water, sweet tea & unsweet tea included. You could also pay $1 for a good assortment of homemade baked goods. We each had a different slice – a carrot cake, a red velvet cake, an angel food cake with blueberries on top, a custard pie, and a brownie/cookie bar. They had a $40 family maximum. Otherwise, it’s $12 for adults & $6 for kids. They also had a drive-thru option to pick up to-go, but they had that before Covid also. We sat with an older Episcopal couple who lives near the church, who were delightful and were thrilled to be welcomed for dinner by the St Brigid community (they saw the signs along the road!). The pastor, Fr Niel, came and chatted with every table. They made a big announcement that it was time to finish up so you could get to Stations of the Cross at 7, and then another announcement when it was time for you to walk over.” – Kathy P (2022)
“I opted for the grilled salmon (BANG BANG) and my wife Laine got the fried shrimp (BANG BANG). You get a good amount of food per adult (fries, Mac and cheese, coleslaw/salad), so you won’t leave hungry. They have a dessert bar of homemade goodies- give a $1, get a great threat that is 0 calories. St. Brigid offers beer, wine, and soft drinks for extra cash monies.
